Cho-O-Brew Weekend Raises £1500....

Michelle Crooke (Jeff's daughter), manager of the J.D. Wetherspoon Stick or Twist pub in Leeds organised an event over the August Bank Holiday weekend to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Michelle dyed her hair blue, there was some singing the blues and some drinking of of blue beer - Cho-O-Brew.

Many thanks to Michelle and J.D. Wetherspoon for organising and supporting this event.

Moments of fame.... (not quite 15 minutes)

Phil, Peter & Jeff made an appearance on ITV Calendar News on 18th August 2009. There was a not very subtle reference to them attempting the challenge and not being "in the first flush of youth". Phil protests....

Peter drew the short straw and had to wear full kit!

This is not in widescreen so Phil's ears don't always fit in the frame (Arf arf...)

The Challenge....

Sponsorship....

Cho Oyu in the Himalayas, is the 6th highest mountain in the world at 8,201m. In 2009 we are attempting a sponsored ascent of Cho Oyu in aid of Cancer Research UK. The target is to raise £100,000. We will be enlisting the help of local guides and porters etc. to assist with the expedition which will take approximately 6 weeks.

Departed 22nd August 2009!

Return date 3rd October 2009

We hope to raise the sponsorship money through personal contacts and appeals. The trip costs are being funded separately by two major sponsors and therefore all of the amount above will go solely to Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK is a registered charity No. 1089464.

If you would like to offer sponsorship please see our 'sponsor us' page.

Why?...

Who are we?...

Cancer Research UK is one of the leading UK charities recognised for its contribution to the search for successful management strategies for this common condition. Research, education and treatment are facilitated through its many activities and a great deal of suffering has been prevented as a result. We believe this a worthy cause. We are hoping to raise a large amount of money. Consequently, the challenge needs to justify this. All three of us have experience of challenges in extreme environments and, on account of the need for more adrenaline (and a healthy dose of madness) we have chosen this climb. The ascent is not without risk but with careful planning and preparation, we should be able to overcome this.

The 3 team members are:

Phil Purdy

Jeff Crooke

and Peter Bailey

Further information on these odd individuals can be found on the 'about us' page.
